Hi! My name is Christian Grewell, I grew up in Portland, Oregon playing music, programming video games, building computers and drinking coffee. I graduated from NYU Stern with an MBA. My home is Shanghai, China. I'm a Professor of Interactive Media Arts and Business at NYU Shanghai and a partner in the Program on Creativity + Innovation where I teach courses and produce workshops ranging from VR/AR to product design and the Chinese innovation ecosystem . I'm the co-founder of m3diate, where I work on technologies to capture, store and transmit human communication and emotion across networks. I love to work with my students on big projects.
I teach courses, lead workshops and produce online educational content at NYU Shanghai and throughout the NYU global network of campuses. My teaching generally focuses on preparing students to use interactive media to create products and solve problems. I also teach VR, AR and mixed immersive media development classes.
Selected projects I've done in the past few years. Most involve a variety of mediums and technologies. I most enjoy projects that push technical and artistic boundaries and those that hint at a future where humans are connected by more than just flat-images, video and text.
My area of interest range from new hacking tools to new systems for educational content production and distribution to how to use VR technologies and precision optical and computer vision to create new musical interfaces and experiences all the way to the Chinese innovative and creative products ecosystem.
